FAQs

WHAT IS IT?

Love Peterborough, Love your Community is a scheme run in partnership by Peterborough City Council and Amey to reward residents for recycling and waste minimisation. It is fully funded by a successful grant application to the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

The Love Peterborough, Love your Community reward scheme aims to incentive households to increase recycling rates across Peterborough. By opting into the available modules you can earn Green Points for your local community, which turn into community rewards.

HOW CAN I EARN GREEN POINTS?

Primarily you will earn Green Points for the communal recycling performance in your local area, based on the amount of recycling and residual waste compared to the previous month. You can also gain Green Points through taking part in waste minimisation and recycling ‘modules’ ranging from activities from food waste to reporting food waste. You can take part in modules where you report your recycling activities on a weekly basis, or by simply telling us what positive actions you have taken on an ad hoc basis.

HOW MANY GREEN POINTS WILL I EARN?

The amount of Points you earn will be dictated by your efforts and your local areas’ recycling efforts, as well as any individual modules you take part in. You will receive points based on the various types of recycling activities you complete.

WHERE DO MY GREEN POINTS GO?

Your Points are accumulated by your local area, or community. The community with the largest amount of Green Points at the end of every four months gets the biggest share of £6,000 to award to a charity group or project that they can vote for.

The charities that you can vote for are currently being finalised, but we will publicise these on the homepage of the website.

HOW ARE THE COMMUNITY GROUPS OR CHARITIES CHOSEN?

Community groups and local charities have been nominated by a panel of local councillors. If you want to put forward your charity or charity project to be a potential beneficiary please download and complete the application form, available here.

HOW DO I EARN A VOUCHER?

Every four months the top resident with the highest amount of Green Points will receive a £50 voucher as a thank you for their hard efforts in recycling and waste minimisation. You will have a choice of five vouchers which can be spent across Peterborough, Queensgate, Vivacity and garden centre vouchers.

HOW IS THE SCHEME FUNDED?

The scheme is fully funded via a successful funding application to the Department of Community and Local Government’s Rewards and Recycling Fund.

WHAT COMMUNITY AM I IN? HOW IS THIS WORKED OUT?

We have used the seven different areas in Peterborough as a basis for your community. The areas in Peterborough are: East, Walton, Paston, Hampton, North Bretton, Cardea in Stanground, Eye and Thorney. These areas were chosen as they have been considered to have either below average recycling rates, or engagement on this issue is a work in progress.

HOW ARE GREEN POINTS AWARDED TO EACH COMMUNITY?

Each month Green Points will be awarded to each community based on their communal recycling and residual tonnages. The seven communities will be ranked by performance, with Points being awarded to every community. More points will be awarded to the top performing community and less to the bottom performing.

WHY ISN’T MY AREA INCLUDED?

We are trialling the scheme in the seven identified areas across Peterborough. If the scheme is successful, methods to extend Love Peterborough, Love your Community will be analysed and considered for the following year.
